Geopolitical Updates Vol. 6
On the evening of the 4th of February, we had the pleasure of welcoming our members to the sixth instalment of Geopolitical updates. We were delighted to welcome Fredrik Reinfeldt, Senior advisor at Paues Åberg communications, and Joakim Paasikivi, Senior Geopolitical advisor at Mannheimer Swartling as our speakers to share their perspectives on current global geopolitical developments.
The discussion addressed the evolving security landscape and the role of collective security, particularly for smaller states, highlighting the importance of cooperation and institutional frameworks in relation to stability and societal development. Europe’s position in a changing world order was a central theme, including questions of trade dependencies, economic strength and the significance of openness and shared values. The speakers also reflected on global power dynamics involving Russia, The United States and China, as well as Europe's need to navigate these relationships strategically.
The conversation further touched on challenges facing the future of liberal democracies, the role of international institutions and the impact of social media and information in today’s geopolitical landscape. Our engaged audience contributed with questions on the role our global leaders have, how we have managed to end up in this situation based on developments since the cold war, and the growing importance of security and information warfare.
We sincerely thank everyone who was a part of this event and a special thanks to Mannheimer Swartling for their hospitality and generosity in hosting us!
