A Stronger Equity Market – Learnings from the UK

On 12 May, we had the pleasure of inviting several of our members to participate in a senior-level discussion hosted by the British Embassy in Stockholm on strengthening equity markets and exploring lessons from the UK. The discussion brought together policymakers, investors, and market participants from both the UK and Sweden to explore how regulatory reform and market innovation can contribute to more competitive and dynamic capital markets across Europe.

A key theme throughout the discussion was the importance of well-functioning equity markets in supporting growth, investment, and competitiveness. Participants highlighted recent reforms in the UK aimed at simplifying listing rules and increasing flexibility, while also emphasizing the need to maintain strong investor protection and market confidence.

The Swedish equity market was highlighted as one of the most active in Europe, particularly due to strong retail participation and a long-standing investment culture. The conversation also emphasized the value of continued collaboration and knowledge-sharing between the UK and Sweden, particularly around regulatory frameworks, competitiveness, and market accessibility.

The discussion concluded with a shared recognition of the importance of balancing innovation, investor trust, and long-term competitiveness in the continued development of European capital markets.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to the British Embassy for hosting, to the speakers for their insightful discussion, and to all who attended the event.
